The Arcane Warfare (AWr) Project comprises a series of miniature rules dedicated to Ancient and Medieval wargaming. The project currently encompasses three games: - Arcane Warfare 3.1 (soon to evolve into Arcane Warfare Excel 4.0) - Arcane Battle Composer (version 1.1 available) - Arcane Heroes and Foes (unpublished charts only)
All the rules within the project share some basic design principles: - The rules must be complete - The rules will not include grey areas - The rules follow the principle of efficiency: use the least possible models for the largest possible strategy scope, within the limit of acceptable looks - There are no technical compromises: what is technically sound is implemented regardless of 'market' of 'popularity' pressures - The only unquestionable rules devellopment guides are reliable historical sources, preferably primary (independent of wargaming lore) - The design should be balanced: no games won beforehand - Bookeeping before or during the game should be minimum, or ideally none - A standard game should be completed within the usual time allowance in a regular club meeting
Technically sound rules, without grey areas, are indispensable for fair competition. The rules under devellopment were designed with tournament play in mind but the perspective of simulation was never forgotten. All AWr games are supported in a dedicated Yahoo group. There you'll find the latest versions, army lists and more information about the game. Your opinion will make a difference. You'll need an updated version of the Adobe Acrobat reader to open the files. |
